I started popping into stores around Seattle for some baby stuff ideas... My favorite so far? Tottini in South Lake Union. It's a fantastic shop that is not overwhelming to browse through and is filled with fresh ideas. Everything is sleek. Lots of clean lines, modern designs and great new ideas.
I found a glider that I really like. It's called the Luca Glider and I love the charcoal color with stone piping, and it's made with microfiber, so easy to clean! It's made by Monte Design in Canada and the price is $995. We want something that will not look too "baby" so we can use it in a different room down the road... When my parents were in town from Chicago last weekend, Ryan and I took them to Tottini and I got the sign of approval from all 3 of them!

Another thing we really liked was this wall print for the baby room (love the green background and the grey elephant!). How cute is this?

I am going to use a hand-me-down Bugaboo Frog stroller from my sister (yes!) but this one from phil and teds is great as a second stroller, and for something lighter to cruise downtown with (or a music festival!). The price is right, too, at $249.

The next day was a rainy Saturday and my mom and I went shopping at University Village in Seattle and we discovered a very cute store. By the way, this was my mom's first trip to Seattle and she really liked the nice outdoor shopping center and she was impressed with the handy yellow umbrellas that are everywhere for shoppers to use while walking around in the rain. We laughed about how umbrellas like that would not last in Chicago - people would take them home with them.
Anyway, the store we stumbled upon was Village Maternity. It is a tiny shop but loaded with all things maternity and baby. Cute blankets and onesies, good lotions, soaps, maternity jeans, nursing bras, carriers, etc. A really cool thing they do is offer a different sale every day. They feature something like maternity jeans, or Mustela brand, and discount it up to 20% off. The sale calendar is on their website so you can plan ahead when you know you are in need of a certain something...

We also registered at Land of Nod and Pottery Barn Kids, but I have to say, there were not as many baby registry options in-store. A lot of it may have to do with the fact that we are waiting to find out if it's a boy or girl, but there didn't seem to be a lot of baby stuff to register for. I set up a registry regardless and that week I went online and found TONS more to add to the registry. Lesson learned: be sure to check out the online stores as well as the actual store if you can.
Last stop for registry? Babies R Us of course! It was absolutely pouring outside and we drove up I-5 to Babies R Us not looking forward to parking and getting out in the rain again. Well, surprise! There was an "Expectant Mother" parking spot waiting for me directly in front of the front doors! Aaaaahhhhh! Perks!
We pulled right up, went to the registry desk (which felt oddly like I was going to a doctor's appointment) and they got me set up with my registry gun and color-coded store guide and away my mom and I went! Meanwhile, Ryan was entertaining my dad back in Ballard... I found out later that the men had tapas and beers and played pool. Not a bad alternative!
At Babies R Us I registered for a Graco car seat, mattress pads, humidifiers, diapers, bottles and other must-have's. My overall thoughts on Babies R Us are that it's really a useful place to get all your basics and essentials. The coupons are great (through mail and email) and it's like a huge go-to warehouse for everything, well, baby.
It was a relief when we were done with all the registering! And a stressful drive home in the crazy rain. A stop at Mc'Ds for a Diet Coke, a Hi-C Orange and french fries was in order. Yay us.

New Year, New Ultrasound
So I had an ultrasound yesterday and wow was I shocked! I did not expect to see such a clear picture of the baby-to-be... Ryan was able to be at the appointment which made it even cooler because he'll be on the road for the next few months. He, too, was pleasantly surprised with seeing the lil' person moving and shaking in there. He/she even touched its knees for us. Show off!
I'm feeling good and ready to ring in 2011 tonight... if I stay awake for it. Happy New Year!
